Their Fire
Title: Their Fire
Author: Kat Lee
Characters/Pairing: Giles/Buffy
Rating: G/K
Challenge: Fire
Word Count: 200
Summary:
Disclaimer: All characters belong to their rightful owners, not the author.
Author's Note: I almost didn't get this out on time, what with all that's happened to us recently, so I hope a double isn't minded. If it helps, each paragraph is 100 words to itself, so they can be considered two separate but linked drabbles.
Staring into the crackling fire, he wonders when his time will come. He still feels the bitter cold from the outside in his bones as he sips his Scotch; even more, he feels the cold of a world that does not care about the sacrifices he and his friends have made to save them. He stares into the fire and wonders how much longer it will be before he really is an old man sitting before a fire, before his Slayer realizes she no longer needs him, and the love of his life accepts he isn't the man she wants.
He blinks as movement interrupts his concentration on the firelight. Suddenly, there she is, her beauty always far more radiant than any light. She instantly captivates his full attention. She drapes herself across his lap, runs her hands into his gray hair, and murmurs against his lips, almost as though she can sense what he is thinking, "Never gonna happen." And then she kisses him again and again, taking away the cold and pain of this Winter of their lives, making him young again, and reminding him that he will always be hers. His Scotch slips as their fire roars.
