Drabble: Summer Malaise

Title: Summer Malaise

Author: littleotter73

Characters: Giles, Buffy

Rating: G/FRC

Setting: The summer after Restless

Word Count: 100

Prompt: Lazy/Return

Disclaimer: For fun, not profit.

Unbuttoning his shirt, Giles heads for the fridge and pulls out a pilsner. It’s too hot to care about propriety and he takes a long pull from the bottle.

Heat and boredom slowly mark the lazy summer months, his Slayer conspicuously absent as she vacations with her mother in Mexico.

He misses her as he has done all year, but it’s different after the enjoining spell, after they’ve shared something so intimate -  something he doesn’t feel with the others. Rifling through the post, he picks up a card with her handwriting.

“Miss you. Home soon.”

He grins, idle no more.
