She wanted to keep him all to herself, but she was going to have to give him back to his parents eventually.

“He’s quite taken with you,” Giles laughed.

“It’s mutual,” Buffy replied, smiling down at the infant.

“Has that inspired any thoughts?” he asked, his eyes hopeful.

“No, Giles, my biological clock isn’t ticking,” she replied and did her best not to laugh at his crestfallen expression. “Because we’ll have one of these of our very own by the spring.”

“Wait… Do you mean?”

“Here,” Buffy said, passing the baby to her awestruck husband. “You better get some practice.”

Oh I'm so glad you liked it! I generally feel that ID the pairing is a straight up spoiler, but it's a kindness to non-shippers, so I figure that it's a small price to pay in the long run. I'm glad you got to have the fun of not knowing what was up!

Thank you! I think she probably only just found out herself, but was keeping quiet, so not to overshadow the reunion. Of course, she couldn't keep such happy news to herself for too long ;-)

I honestly spent way too long going back and forth about if Giles was a jackass for asking about having kids like that or Buffy was for announcing an unplanned pregnancy like that. But then I decided that, as newlyweds, they had probably agreed to a "whatever happens, happens" approach with plans to revisit the conversation at some point in the future. So Giles was just asking if Buffy was ready to discuss things again, except "whatever" happened already. ;-)
