Wesley brought out the worst in him. Giles didn’t know why he couldn’t just ignore the new Watcher. Buffy turned only to him, had reaffirmed her trust in him, and they were closer than ever before.

Sitting in his office unconsciously twirling the rapier in his hand, it rankled that the Council felt that this unprepared, cowardly, arrogant little know-it-all was a suitable replacement.

Yet, this…  was his successor.

It didn’t sit well.

“I placed first in my division,” Wesley boasted smugly, entering the office.

Time to take the bastard down a notch. “Care for a round, Wesley?”
