Drabble: His Duty

Title: His Duty

Author: littleotter73

Prompt: Autumn

Characters: Giles, Buffy

Word Count: 100

Disclaimer: Just playing in Joss’ sandbox. I make no profit.

The ground below grew wetter with the heavy dew and the fallen autumn leaves made for treacherous conditions. Giles was glad to have worn his old Rugby boots for traction. Taking his broadened stance, the Watcher surveyed the field. One behemoth in particular paced back and forth, eyes murderous, targeting the Slayer. Squaring his shoulders, Giles knew his duty.

Buffy came up behind him, placing a firm hand on his back. He must’ve been insane to agree to this, but she’d argued it was a fall tradition. Gripping the oblong ball, he waited her command.

“Seventeen, six, hut, hut, hike!”

I love it. I can so imagine Giles playing center in a front yard football game. Just don't get too into it and hurt the little boys, Big Guy!

Great fun.

Definitely didn't see that one coming! Well done! Although, now I do have to kind of wonder who they're playing against . . .

I can see Giles being coerced into playing a little game of two-hand-touch. Just like Buffy talked him into having the Thanksgiving dinner at his house.

"Giles, if you want to get by in American society you have to learn our traditions."
