“Don’t stop!” Came the frantic command. “Keep applying the pressure.”

“Giles… Giles…” Xander looked over at his friend, stopping the compressions, his eyes shadowed with grief. “It’s over.”

Tara knelt beside the Watcher and placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. “She’s gone,” she whispered. “She couldn’t survive the fall.”

Intellectually, he’d known that, but Buffy was so extraordinary, how could he possibly accept that she wouldn’t open her eyes and tell him he was an idiot for worrying so?

He stood, tamping down the overwhelming grief. “Right… of course. You lot should go to hospital. I’ll… take her home.”
