“I’ll… take her home.” He’d sounded contrite. His soaking in the sewer appearing to have sobered him up such that he was stammering more like a librarian than a teenage crime wave.  Joyce too had managed to maintain a serious grown-up demeanour and between them they had convinced Buffy they could be trusted alone together. She would return the babies. They could walk.

Joyce locked her front door and turned. “You look disgusting in those wet things, Ripper.”

His eyes flashed in dangerous amusement. “And what do you propose I do about that?”

“Obviously you should take your clothes off.”
