You mean metaphorically? As far as I can tell from canon, Buffy was never "on the payrol" to start with. (I assume Slayers were taken care of by their Watchers in the past and died young enough so it wasn't an issue. But Joss kind of sucks when it comes to financial issues and any understanding of the working class anyway.)

And she certainly wouldn't choose to repeat her actions in This Years Girl/Who are You (much less S3.) She's moving beyond bloodlust or vengeance.
