Two Giles Drabbles
Title: Sacrifice
Author: il-mio-capitano
Length: 100
Rating: FRT
Characters: Giles, Xander
"If we'd been having sex, none of this would have happened."
Though his hands were tied uncomfortably behind him, Giles twisted to look incredulously at his similarly bound friend."Well not together, obviously," Xander continued. "I just mean if either of us had any kind of social life, we wouldn't be in this mess."
Giles looked to where the high priest was preparing his sacrificial alter and conceded the point.
"I suppose there are better ways to spend a Saturday night. Did Buffy give you any kind of timeframe for when she'd be joining us?"
"I thought you called her?"
Title: New life
Author: il-mio-capitano
Length: 100
Rating: FRT
Characters: Giles, Travers, A bit of Faith
He booked the next flight out to Sunnydale but Travers intercepted him.
"A monstrous resurrection. It is your duty, Rupert, to take whatever is out there and put it back in the bloody ground!"
"Not if it is really Buffy."
Travers oozed, "Then I'm sure Faith will eagerly take the opportunity to set matters right."
Giles could only smile. He'd anticipated that move already and phoned the jail. 'Yeah, Mr Stuffy Butt rang, but we're five by five here, G.'
"Faith isn't terribly interested in Council offers." He savoured his advantage. "What's the matter, Quentin? I thought you called her?"

HAH! That sounds about right for these two.
The second one has a scenario I'd never imagined - or seen anyone write, but damn Travers is a creep here. You do not mince words *pun intended* where he's concerned. But also incredibly stupid - how could he even imagine Faith would want anything to do with the council at that point?

Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for reading.

You mean metaphorically? As far as I can tell from canon, Buffy was never "on the payrol" to start with. (I assume Slayers were taken care of by their Watchers in the past and died young enough so it wasn't an issue. But Joss kind of sucks when it comes to financial issues and any understanding of the working class anyway.)
By the by, have you read
He underestimates them both I think.
TOTAL agreement.
Faith doesn't need his help to get out of prison, it's ner choice to stay.
And she certainly wouldn't choose to repeat her actions in This Years Girl/Who are You (much less S3.) She's moving beyond bloodlust or vengeance.
That's the thing about Travers, he doesn't bother to really KNOW who any of these people are.

YES - as well as the fact that women and children were literally the legal property of men, whoever was their "guardian" at a given time. A boy might declare his independence and strike out on his own at age 18 (or whatever the age was in any give period); a female "adult" was always a considered a minor.
I'm surprised that neither canon or fandom explore that very much, it seems like such a rich topic for consideration.

(Kwritten has done a lot with the buffyverse and finances recently in her "finding a balance" verse and I'd rec it to you because her stories are wonderful - but not so much Giles-friendly, so I won't do so here unless asked.)

Also kudos for taking the two separate threads of ending lines and joining them back together. ;-)
