"Better get some rest." Ethan cast the spell quickly, catching Rupert by the chest as he fell unconscious.

His doorbell had rung furiously at 2am, and there had been Rupert, tired, panicky, and more shit scared than Ethan had ever seen him. The First Evil had declared open war against the Council, against it's Watchers, against Buffy. He needed weapons, he needed a phone, a fax, a computer even.

Crazy talk of course, because Ethan knew best how to survive being hunted. What Ripper really needed was a place to hide, a place to think. He needed to go dark.

Actually, I really like this drabble. I like the fact that when the shit hits the fan, Giles can go to Ethan for help and that Ethan is there for him.

Thank you! Yes, the ambiguity is intentional. I was hoping by calling him Ripper and not Rupert at the end, that would reinforce the idea of the double meaning.
