A drabble, set in my I&A world, but all you need to know is that we're AU from early in Season 7; Giles and Anya have been together for almost fourteen years.

SUMMARY: An I&A bit. In memory of David Bowie.


Giles read the announcement in The Times for the third time but it still didn't make any sense.

“What’s wrong, honey?” Anya said, between sips of her breakfast tea.

“David Bowie died, it says. Cancer.” Giles swallowed the rest of it – how Bowie had been the soundtrack of his disaffection, demons and chaos and music; how Bowie had spoken to his own reinventions; how they had grown older together.

She knew, anyway. She came ‘round the table and dropped into his lap for comfort. “Cancer’s a real demon,” she said. Then, softly, “I’m sorry, honey.”

He kissed her for that.
