"It’s just a little something I wanted to try.” Willow plucked the oddly shaped bottle out of Giles’ hand and slid it back inside of her bag.

A look of horror crossed his face as he interrupted. “It’s not a love potion, is it?”

Willow’s red hair bounced around her shoulders as she shook her head. “How could you even...?

Giles felt foolish. He should’ve known better. Without a word he patted her on the shoulder and left the room.

She watched him leave with a wicked smile on her face.

"Oh that's easy to find out." Willow jumped down from the counter. "We can hack the Council."

"Willow," he began gravely. "There are ancient ledgers, scrolls, parchment, velum, and, at a pinch, things held in ring binders, but the Watchers Council of Great Britain does not keep its records on computers."

Willow nodded. His faith in the arcane was important to him, so best not say how she'd previously hacked their medical plan when they hadn't provided enough. He had earned that.

Snyder sneered. Buffy giggled. Oz Smiled. Wesley huffed. Xander seemed confused. Anya ignored. Cordila winked. But he didn’t care.

Her hand was soft in his. Her arm around him, held him tight. Her head rested lightly on his shoulder.

For infinitesimally infinite moments there were no hell hounds, was no mayor to ascend, no Hellmouth beneath their feet. Only the swaying to music. Only the kindness of a girl who tried to understand.

He was far from home. A foreigner. In a high school. At a prom.

But Giles was happy, content even, because Willow had asked him to dance.

The engines revved up and they rocketed down the runway. Simple science. Willow recited the physics principles of flight in her mind as her fists wrapped around the plastic armrests, turning her knuckles white.

A large, warm hand gently rested over hers, radiating calm.

“First time?” Giles murmured and received a shy nod. “But you’ve booked dozens of flights.”

“Yeah, for you to go on. Or, better yet, come home on.”

“But, your parents…”

“We always drove when they took me. Bonding experiences...”

Giles placed a soft, reassuring kiss on her cheek, and Willow completely forgot that flying involved physics.

Giles sank deeper with a groan and pinched the bridge of his nose. On stage, the villagers of Anatevka were doing a wonderful impression of the Keystone Cops.

Dawn elbowed him. “We’re here for Willow.”

“S-she only auditioned for class,” Tara added. “You should have s-seen her face… villager #3.”

“Please understand, my mother took me to see Mr. Topol perfect the role of Tevye in London. Watching it butchered by amateurs is abuse.”

Willow ran up. “How was I?”

“A star.” Giles presented her with roses, and received a smile worthy of hours of torture… and more.

"Yep." Xander responded cheerfully, "A tradition combining our two greatest loves- pumpkins, and things going splat!"

"Hmm."

"C'mon Giles, give it a chance." Willow pleaded. "Some of them use catapults. They're not flinging rocks, but still, kinda' historical."

"Catapults were used for more than just breaching walls. Incendiary missiles, severed carcasses or-"

"Giles," Buffy interrupted "you're cute when you're all Watchery, but we're trying to get away from gruesomeness."

"It's on!" Willow squealed.

Ten minutes later, "Oddly enough, I'm quite enjoying myself." Giles admitted.

“I don’t know if that’s a good idea, guys,” Willow frowned. “They don’t even celebrate Halloween in England.”

“He’s been here for three years. About time he was initiated.” Xander’s eyes twinkled. “Come on… Two Slayers around. No Big Bad in sight. What better time!”

“This is not good,” Willow muttered as her friends leaned forward to whisper plans…
