It was a few days after Joyce's funeral, and Willow was desperately throwing herself back into her normal routine, hoping that it would help her to forget the desperate grief that she still felt at Joyce's sudden death. And, while it wasn't the escape she had been hoping for, she found that between Tara's support and her class schedule, she was at least coping. She had just gotten back from the last of her classes, and had decided to go through the mail that had built up since that terrible day before meeting up with Tara and the others at the Magic Box. Luckily, being an unemployed college student, there wasn't much to sort through, just the usual junk mail, and a rare letter form her parents.

Title: One Day Later
Author: Quaggy
Word Count: 100
Last line prompt: "After all, it was her destiny."
Notes: Post-ep for "Welcome to the Hellmouth"/"The Harvest"

It was her destiny, but that didn’t mean she had to like it.

Being the Slayer destroyed the life she had, but she had a chance to all start over again in Sunnydale. Except her new town had a vampire problem too.

But she had made a few friends already. Willow was all kinds of awesome and Xander wasn’t too bad either, once you got past the teenage boy posturing. And she liked her new Watcher far more than she wanted to admit. It sort of felt like she’d known him forever.

Maybe things would work out okay after all.

Title: Twenty Years Later
Author: Quaggy
Word Count: 100
Last line prompt: "After all, it was her destiny."
Notes: Post-ep for "Welcome to the Hellmouth"/"The Harvest", technically speaking

It was her destiny, but it sure had turned out different from what she had expected.

She was still alive for one thing. Heck, it was well over fifteen years since the last time she died. And life had gotten pretty peaceful in the last decade.

Even though they all lived in different parts of the world, she was able to see Willow and Xander on a fairly regular basis. And Giles, once her Watcher and now so much more than that, was still by her side, stalwart and true.

Maybe it wasn’t so bad being a Slayer after all.

Prompt: You have witchcraft in your lips.

It had been a hard fought battle, but the Scooby Gang stood victorious and surveyed the wreckage before them.

“Ugh! It’s not gonna dissolve, is it?” Xander whined, supporting an exhausted Willow.

“I am too tired for burial duty,” Buffy whinged. “But we've gotta do something or it will start to stink.”

Catching his breath, Giles viewed the giant wyrm with disgust before his eyes flashed bright green and the beast burst into flame.

“My hero!” Buffy declared, throwing her arms around him and surprising him with a kiss. “Did anyone tell you you have witchcraft in your lips, Giles?”

With all the excitement of decorating for Christmas, Willow solemnly pulled out the Menorah her parents had given her upon entering college. They’d expected her to uphold her Jewish traditions after moving in separate directions. Over the intervening years, Willow had set them aside, preferring to celebrate the winter solstice.

But something was different this year - after the First.

Picking up the shamash, she lit the first candle.

Her friends noticed her methodical movements and moved to join her. Buffy and Xander took her hands and she raised her voice to chant with Giles as he began the Hanerot Halalu.

The Mistletoe Gauntlet

Giles sighed. The Magic Box had become his personal mine-field. Every time he thought he’d found a safe pathway, they seemed to instantly hang more of the troublesome plant overhead. It was his own fault, of course, reacting to the first attack with a mixture of shock and embarrassment that the girls had deemed completely adorable.

Now he knew they were lying in wait for his slightest miss-step. Dawn struck most often with a swift, sneak attack. Willow and Tara enjoyed the double-team, coming from both sides at once. Anya’s kisses were as upfront and matter-of-fact as her personality. Even Buffy surprised him a few times when he thought he’d escaped the other’s notice.

And Xander stood ever-ready with the camera. Snapping a photo of each annoyed and longsuffering reaction he gave for future teasing and blackmail. And as keepsakes for Giles to treasure when Christmastimes were not so sweet.

He’d hardly slept in weeks, and the Scoobies resolved to uncover why. They discovered the reason after barging in after patrol and finding him tossing and turning on his couch.

A few days later, they took him to Breakers Woods, solemnly lending him their strength as they walked along.

“Okay, big guy, do the honors,” Xander encouraged as they reached their destination, handing Giles a box of matches.

They shared a group hug, wanting to heal his heart.

He should’ve gotten rid of it sooner, he realized. Striking the match, he threw it on the kerosene soaked bed.

“Goodbye, Jenny.”

“… in a meeting with Snyder.”

Willow frowned, “Poor Giles.”

“It’s time to step it up, Ladies.”  Xander entered with a bag.  “G-man thinks he can ignore us?  Ha!”

Buffy examined the contents.  “Double-sided tape, cotton webs, Bottle-O-Blood…?”

“You girls get started.  I’ll look-out.”

“But, how do we know where he’ll go?”

Willow sighed.  “Take a book from that section and put it on his cart.”

“Look at our resident evil genius,” Buffy grinned.

“And remember he’s over six foot, so put the webs high and stretch them thin.”

It wasn’t long before Xander sprinted though.  “…with the running now!”

“Psst, Wil. G-man around?”

“He muttered something about California’s lack of autumn and wandered outside.”

“Great,” Xander pushed the door open. “Buffy, coast’s clear.”

Willow sighed as Buffy entered carrying a large assortment of paper and inflatable skeletons. “What now, Guys? He hasn’t mentioned the bugs. I say leave it alone while you can.”

“That’s just ‘cause he hasn’t figured out it was us, yet.”

“Who else would it be?” she dead-panned.

“Doesn’t matter, time for phase two! You guys start blowing these babies up. When we’re done, every dark corner in the stacks will have a spooky new resident.”

Buffy hurried into the library, carrying a large box. “This is all I could find. Cleaned out all the stores and even stole what was in the student’s lounge.”

Xander peered inside. “Perfect.”

“Eww, flies!” Willow gagged.

“And spiders, roaches, centipedes, snakes… All the rubber Halloween goodness!”

“I still think this is bad. Giles’ll be back any minute.”

“Wil, you keep watch. Buffy, start opening all the drawers you can find. Every time he reached for so much as a pen, he’ll get a handful of creepy-crawlies.”

“He’ll be pissed,” Buffy giggled.

“That’s why we don’t let him catch us!”

"Come on, Giles, your introduction to American culture isn't complete until you carve your first jack-o-lantern," Xander urged.

The Watcher skeptically eyed the ridiculously rotund orange vegetable that sat before him on the table, it's green stem sticking up jauntily.

"Plus side: a more festive library," Willow added, handing him a carving knife.

Buffy placed a giant bowl next to him.

"What's this for?" Giles asked.

"The pumpkin guts. You gotta disembowel the suckers before you can carve their faces," his Slayer explained with delight.

Ten minutes later he was covered in pumpkin slime. "Worse than any demon," he muttered.

Xander grinned, snagging another pumpkin spice cookie courtesy of Buffy’s mom. The three friends turned to watch their librarian hurry through the student lounge.

“Let’s show Giles the meaning of Halloween this year,” Xander suddenly laughed.

“You wanna prank my Watcher?”

“I don’t know if that’s a good idea, guys,” Willow frowned. “They don’t even celebrate Halloween in England.”

“He’s been here for three years. About time he was initiated.” Xander’s eyes twinkled. “Come on… Two Slayers around. No Big Bad in sight. What better time!”

“This is not good,” Willow muttered as her friends leaned forward to whisper plans…
