It had been a hard fought battle, but the Scooby Gang stood victorious and surveyed the wreckage before them.

“Ugh! It’s not gonna dissolve, is it?” Xander whined, supporting an exhausted Willow.

“I am too tired for burial duty,” Buffy whinged. “But we've gotta do something or it will start to stink.”

Catching his breath, Giles viewed the giant wyrm with disgust before his eyes flashed bright green and the beast burst into flame.

“My hero!” Buffy declared, throwing her arms around him and surprising him with a kiss. “Did anyone tell you you have witchcraft in your lips, Giles?”

Nice one, Giles! He must have gotten stronger since Sunnydale. Or maybe he was just trying to impress Buffy. ;-)

Thanks! Headcanon for me has his powers restricted by the Council. I mean the man exorcised Eyghon in his 20s - it wasn't wholly successful (he had to kill Randall to do it, but then he had been doing all sorts of magicks with Ethan and the rest and raising demons for a while - a drain on his reserves - and he was probably drunk at the very least and/or high. He reversed the spell Catherine the Great put on her and her daughter in Witch. Then he did the spell with Hansel and Gretl. Those were some pretty powerful magicks he played with. I also believe he was rather hesitant with the magicks after what happened in his youth. I think once he was free of the Council rules (as in when the old Council was blown to smithereens), he was free to play with magick again and since he was older and wiser - and helped Willow through her "addiction" - he grew more confident in his abilities and his use of it.

Clearly I spend a lot of time thinking about this stuff. lol
