“No, young Rupert, we don’t take ourselves that seriously. It’s not a pact with the Devil.”
“I’m sorry, I’m just a little nervous. I’m grateful for the opportunity, of course.”
Later there was discussion among the faculty members. “Are we quite sure that the younger Giles is Watcher material? His father was very steady man, but I’ve heard his son has a quite a mixed past.”
“We have vetted him. There was some magic dabbling among dubious company but he seems to put it behind him.”
“So we watch the Watcher.”
“Very closely.”
