“You don’t know the half of it, book boy. Keeping up with fashion, you know, was a full time job. At the beginning it was all waistcoats, spats, watch fobs. Then things got more casual.”

“Plus fours?“ Giles suggested.

“Never! Finally I got to the classic look I have today.” Spike gave Giles a good look-over, “Have you always dressed like that? Because you’d have fit right in when I was turned.”

Giles smiled but said nothing.

"Forever?" Giles stammered.

The yellow eyes flashed in amusement. The sharp teeth, which couldn't obscure the essential mischievousness that had once been Ethan, glistened.

"I'm not leaving you behind to rot as a human, Ripper. It will be like old times." He took a predatory step nearer. "Except we will have eternity together."

Giles' retreat hit the wall behind him, causing him to yelp.

"Could we not just start with coffee?" he bleated.

Ethan was close now, his hand slowly caressing Rupert's cheek.

"I think we've gone beyond that, don't you?"

Giles gripped the stake in his pocket.

"I guess."

“I guess.” Buffy knew she should sound more excited but the truth was she was just too shocked. She had thought it would take her months of dropping hint after hint before Giles would finally get the message and ask her out.

“Really?” Disbelief colored Giles’ voice. “You do understand I’m asking you out on a... on a date?”

A slow grin began to spread across Buffy’s face. “Uh huh.”

Giles’ couldn’t stop smiling as he slid his arms around her waist and pulled her close against his body. “And you said yes.”

She cupped his cheek. “Yes. I did.”
