It didn’t matter how much she begged, he wasn’t going to give in. No amount of bargaining, reasoning, whining, or even threatening bodily harm was going to prevent him from staying in. If she wanted to go out clubbing with the gang, that was fine by him, but there was a fire in the hearth, a mystery novel by the arm of his chair, and he’d just made up an Irish coffee.

But when Buffy came down the stairs in that little black dress, stilettos, and the bright red lipstick that accentuated her pout, he knew his plans were doomed.

Oh Giles, you really are doomed! Now, maybe if you had given the girl incentive to want to stay in, you would have had a chance. There are other equally pleasurable things that you can be doing by a fire other than reading a mystery novel ;-)
