Prompt: “Giles slammed the car door”
A/N: il_mio_capitano and I are going to play a rousing game of last line/first line for the month of October. Here is the first drabble:
Giles slammed the car door and instantly winced in apology. The bolts shook and the ancient beast shuddered under the rough treatment. He truly tried to be careful with the antiquated Citroën, but the door wouldn’t close without the excessive force. Ghosting his fingers over the rusty bonnet, he knew he really needed to find something new, but the Council had denied his last three expense reports and, in light of the Cruciamentum, he now had to make do on just his high school librarian’s salary.
“Hang in there a little longer, old girl,” he encouraged. “Our mission isn’t done.”
