“It’s the first time I’ve seen you smile in a long time,” Giles noted, handing Buffy a cup of coffee.

 

“Yeah, well, things have been pretty shitty up until recently.”

 

“Understatement of a lifetime.”

 

“Or two.”

 

Raising his mug in salute, he asked, “So what now?”

She shook her head. “No clue. Still kinda reeling.”

 

“Sabbatical?” She looked receptive, so he pressed on, “Retirement, perhaps?”

 

“Whoa there, partner, that’s crazy talk!”

 

“A bridge too far,” Giles agreed. “Disneyland?”

 

“Sure, why not?” Buffy laughed and leaned into his shoulder. After a beat she said, “Maybe after.”

 

“After?”

 

“Mouse first. Retirement after.”
