The damn thing wouldn’t budge. Giles cursed again, planted one foot firmly against the tree trunk and pulled hard on the handle of his sword.
“Need some help with that?” Buffy whispered playfully in his ear. He hadn’t heard her approach and in his surprise he let go, flew backwards, and crashed to an undignified heap on the woodland floor.
Buffy released the stuck blade with consummate ease and held out a hand to pull him to his feet. Dusting the bracken from his pants, he fell sulkily into step at her side.
“I loosened it though.”
“Sure you did.”
