He came to her in the middle of the night, weary and depressed from fighting constant battles all his life. He let go of his books and glasses, dropped off his tie, and fell to his knees in the soft earth. He was accustomed to fighting and losing, but this had been the longest and most trying battle he'd ever fought. He'd wanted it to be over long ago, but not like this, never like this. With a wail of heartache wrenching itself free from his mouth, Giles grabbed Buffy's tombstone in his trembling arms and wept the night away.
