He knows all the reasons why modern electronics are supposed to make things easier for the consumer and shopkeeper alike, but for the life of him, Giles can't help yearning for the days of old. The things he needs would have been so much easier to procure in medieval times; he would have simply sent his Slayer out to get what was needed to save the world. But not now . . . Now they have to wait. "How long did you say it will take the item to reach us again?" he asks exasperatedly, cleaning his spectacles for the third time in a row.

"The shipping and processing will take a day, and then it should arrive Wednesday. I'm sorry, Giles, but I did the best I could. It's not like we can go shopping and simply buy a dragon's tooth."

"I could go slay one. Are you sure the nearest one is in Britain?"

"Quite," Giles mutters.

"We did have one," Willow says what they're all thinking.

"I'm sorry," Anya blasts back, "but how was I supposed to know the old tooth the guy was offering to pay me a thousand dollars for was what we would need to stop the next apocalypse?"

"It was a dragon's tooth, Anya," Giles repeats his earlier words.

"Yeah, that's what it said, but how was I supposed to know it was real? Do you know how many things you've ordered in this place that aren't really what they say they are?"

"I was given that tooth by a fellow member of the Council."

"Oh, you mean, the now-defunct Council of old guys trying to get young girls killed?"

"Instead I'm going to get killed trying to keep this monster from killing us all for a freaking week while we wait for Willow's order to come in."

"Hey, it's not my fault! I did the best I could! We're lucky the online coven even had a real dragon's tooth -- "

"Are we even sure it's real? I mean, they could be just saying it is and not -- "

"My coven would not lie!"

"It's not like it'd be the first time a Witch lied."

"Leave it to my Ahn. Sell what we need to save the world for a thousand dollars."

"A thousand dollars is a lot of money!"

"You won't be able to spend it if we're all dead!"

"I can if I start now!"

"Shag it. I may not be able to kill the bloody beastie, but I can bloody well kill something else!"

"That's always your answer, isn't it, Spike?"

"It's better than sitting around here twiddling my thumbs waiting for a dragon tooth that may or may not be the real thing to come in, blondie!"

"I-Isn't there s-something else we can try, Mister Giles?"

Giles doesn't hear Tara's softly spoken question for he's dropped his throbbing head once more into his hands. Dear God, he thinks yet again, why couldn't he have chosen any other profession than an elaborate babysitter for the Slayer and all her juvenile friends.

"Hey, I know! Red can summon a dragon, and then we can kill it and use its tooth -- !"

"We're not summoning something just to kill it!"

"Faith may have a point, Buffy. I can summon one."

"At least we'd know it was the real thing."

"Yeah, and we can take all its other teeth and sell them, too! We'll make a fortune!"

"Poor dragon -- "

"We are not summoning a living being just to kill it!"

"Now you're the one sounding like a Pirate, Anya."

"You weren't complaining last night, Xander."

"Dear merciful Heavens, shut up already, won't you?!" Giles pleads aloud before he can stop himself.

"But Faith's right. I can summon the dragon," Willow starts.

"Summoning a dragon is not a task to be done lightly."

"I know it requires -- " Once more, the teenagers all start talking at once, all but one.

That one stands just behind the weary Watcher's left elbow and holds up a cup of steaming tea. "Mister Giles?" she speaks so softly he almost doesn't hear her for the cacophony running amok in the rest of his shop.

But when he does hear her and sees her sweet smiles, Giles softens just a tad. His headache already seems a little less as he accepts the offered cup from the young Witch. "Thank you, Tara." He is glad, for a change, that he allowed Spike to spike his tea this evening while at the same time he wishes with all his heart that the rest of his youth surrounding him could have just a fraction of the patience, morals, and manners of this young Witch. "Thank you," he says again, meaning the words with all his heart and knowing they will do all they must to save the day again for Tara and the other young lives like hers.

The End
