"I had a feeling I'd find you here," he says and starts cleaning his glasses as she gawks at him.
"What?! Now you're coming to the beach to find me?! Giles!!"
"I'm sorry, Buffy," he says stiffly, pushing his glasses back onto his nose. "Far be it from me to make certain that the Chosen One is prepared to save lives."
"But -- But -- There's no way there's any monsters out in this!" She waves her hand at the first sunny day of Summer.
"Indeed. They may not be afoot in this fair weather we're having today."
"Afoot? What are you, Sherlock Holmes?"
"However, it is not daytime everywhere, you know, Buffy. Even now Vampires are feasting heavily across the world, and who knows how many are in lairs or in the sewers scheming their next kidnapping of innocent children or even luring them into the darkness where they await them even now. Or puppies."
"Puppies?" Willow squeaks.
"It is a well known fact that, whereas a Vampire prefers to dine on human blood, they will, on occasion, make do with an animal's."
"That's why there's so many missing pets," Willow whispers, shocked.
"Fine, fine." Buffy groans, getting up and dusting off sand, but even as the high school girl continues to complain about the sacrifices she has to make to save the world, the Slayer knows she will never again look at a beautiful, sunny day in the same light.
